Understanding regarding the childhood rheumatic diseases has grown exponentially in the past two decades. Not only the insights into the pathogenesis of several conditions have improved but also the advantages of multidisciplinary team inputs and dedicated care during transitional years has been well recognized. This reference book presents an exhaustive update on pediatric rheumatology while giving a Southeast Asian perspective on several issues and is particularly well adapted for a resource-poor country like India.

The volume contains five sections on basic principles, arthritides, connective tissue diseases, vasculitides, and miscellaneous conditions with a total of 49 chapters. Genetics, immunology, drugs used in pediatric rheumatology and imaging are some of the important and useful chapters covered in the introductory section. Specific chapters on various diseases are well written with learning objectives of each chapter presented at the beginning. Case vignettes are also presented at the beginning to highlight the challenging scenarios and take-home messages at the end to highlight key learning points. Each clinical section ends with a chapter which has many case vignettes. With over 600 pages it is indeed a sizable volume; however as the editors point out in their preface, this book is a “go-to” for clinicians interested in this field; beginners and experienced alike.

This clinically oriented book has easy to read chapters with useful sub-headings and plenty of summary tables, clinical photographs, and other figures. Overall, this book on pediatric rheumatology is a comprehensive text for trainees in pediatrics, rheumatologists, pediatric rheumatologists, pediatricians, and other clinicians managing childhood rheumatic diseases.
